SG SAFEEVENT CERTIFICATION SPOTLIGHT

In this week’s SG SafeEvent Certification Spotlight, we speak to Yip Je Choong, Managing Director of Relx Singapore Pte Ltd as he shares his organisation’s journey in becoming SG SafeEvent Certified and how the programme will help the MICE & Events industry provide a sense of assurance to all attendees.

1. What inspired you to be SG SafeEvent certified?

With exhibitions having come to a standstill in the past 18 months due to the pandemic, Singapore is now paving the way for the return of in-person MICE events. I believe that as an event organiser, we can play our part in driving Singapore’s position as a premier MICE destination for safe events by committing to uphold the highest standards for the event’s conduct, construct and adherence to the national protocols.

This compliance would in turn deliver a mark of assurance and confidence to the global community as we prime ourselves to recalibrate business operations through a new operating environment.

2. How was the journey in the programme?

The programme provides clear guidelines to hygiene and sanitisation benchmarks, safe-distancing best practices and emergency management that event organisers like myself at RX Singapore, need to follow. This is also in line with the 5-Point Safety Plan developed by our Reed Global Security Compliance Team and the Safe Management Measures (SMM) laid out by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB)

3. Why would you recommend other companies to come onboard

The aim for the safe reopening of exhibitions and to provide a competitive edge for Singapore as a safe and trusted MICE destination both regionally and internationally, is not a journey that a single individual nor organisation can embark on alone. The programme has demonstrated that these are achieved through cooperation, ongoing advocacy and continued contribution of event organisers, venue operators and event suppliers. Together, we perform as an ecosystem to ensure the certified standards are upheld at events as they resume progressively in Singapore.
