SINGAPORE MSC: PIONEERING COMPANIES CERTIFIED

Since the launch of the Singapore MICE Sustainability Certification (MSC) on 25 January 2024, there has been a strong interest from the MICE industry in the certification programme that aims to certify and equip businesses in adopting sustainable practices in events and raising sustainability standards in the industry.

Developed by SACEOS, with support from Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and in consultation with members and industry players, the Singapore MSC is a well-recognised initiative with a new framework that aims to reinforce Singapore’s position as a leading sustainable MICE destination.

We are delighted to announce that three pioneering companies have since been awarded the Singapore MSC, with many in the pipeline who are going through the application and certification process. The certified companies are namely TRICOM Events Pte Ltd (Silver – Event Organiser), The Mill International Pte Ltd (Silver – Stand builder) and Expotrans Pte Ltd (Bronze – Freight Forwarder).

Being the pioneering Singapore MSC certified companies, their commitment to adopting sustainable practices will go a long way in inspiring more businesses across the entire MICE ecosystem to embark on their Singapore MSC journey.

Dylan Sharma, Co-Founder & Director, TRICOM Events, said, “We are honoured to be the first company in Singapore to attain the MICE Sustainability Certification. It is a testament to the hard work of the team, to embrace and incorporate sustainability in every facet of an event. Event agencies, such as TRICOM, have the responsibility to integrate sustainable practices across all the events that we organise. This is a matter not only of corporate social responsibility, but also client responsibility seeing as, increasingly, our clients seek strategic and practical advice on the organisation of sustainable events. It is important that our industry has recognized means of providing others with assurance of our capabilities in organising sustainable events. The Singapore MSC provides this. As a pilot company for the Singapore MICE Sustainability Certification, I strongly encourage all industry players in the MICE ecosystem to get themselves certified, in line with our industry and national imperatives. The reward speaks for itself: a better planet, a better event.”

Priscilla Leong, Founder & Managing Director, Expotrans, said: “Securing the Singapore MICE Sustainability Certificate was a smooth and efficient experience for us at Expotrans, thanks to a year’s preparation and a clear understanding of the required supporting evidence for each criterion. The grant application from STB was straightforward, and the audit process by TUV SUD was thorough yet manageable. With proper groundwork, we achieved certification in less than a month. While starting at the Bronze level requires effort, the journey towards sustainability is crucial for the future of our industry. I strongly encourage all industry players to embark on this rewarding path.”

Matthew Fong, Director, The Mill International, said: “The Mill International is pleased to be the first few companies to be certified under the Singapore MICE Sustainability Certification. We would like to encourage the rest of the MICE industry to join us in this sustainability journey together. Sustainability is no longer a good-to-have, but a must-have for our industry as we look to meet the demand for greener events.”

With the growing demand for more sustainable events among customers and attendees, there has never been a greater need for the MICE industry to showcase their commitment to sustainability.

With three certification tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold), the Singapore MSC provides an attainable yet robust and well recognised programme to empower MICE businesses – both locally and regionally – to level-up their sustainability game regardless the stage of their sustainability journey.
