SMF 2017 was designed on the theme to "Re:imagine" the meetings and events industry with the heart to "#Engage" communities. Prior to the 2016 edition, there was an 11% increase in attendance marking SMF 2017 with a record breaking number of delegates. To further extend the event outreach in attempt to entice international delegates, our first live broadcast was launched with records of audiences from Hong Kong, Macau, Germany, Mexico and many more.
How did we execute an event that was more than just a speaker-listener experience?
Revolving around the theme, the conference was conceptualised with a series of panoramic plenary and breakout sessions with the purpose of providing delegates with an opportunity to network, innovate and problem-solve together. Breakout rooms were designed with a layout to create group atmosphere to cultivate collaborative work while inducing creative thinking with fellow industry peers.
During the plenary sessions, our visionary speakers took the lead and brought the audience into a new world of limitless possibilities with their success stories and creative business models in building communities. We invited speakers of successful brands from all around the world such as Walt Disney, Spartan Race Inc, Ironman, TEDxSingapore and many more to do what they do best and recreate the learning experience for our delegates. New perspectives were shed through a range of inspirational speakers compelling delegates to reimagine how meetings and events are designed, taking in contrary viewpoints and embracing new thoughts and ideas.
In between the educational sessions, delegates were exposed to a diverse range of exhibitors to get connected with potential investors and to expand their social capital over a wide spread of food. Key takeaways from each session were graphically captured by Sketch Post to help delegates visualise and remember the knowledge and insights shared by industry professionals. Delegates were also encouraged to reflect on discussions by taking notes in a dedicated learning log that was provided to each of them.
Aside from all the brain juicing content, we decided that it was time to shrug off the stress. Oh yes, we educate hard, but we also know how to play hard. We brought a series of entertainment such as drumming sessions, songs and dance, with a luxurious spread of food and drinks to energise the crowd. Ending the night with a bang, we lighted up the night with streaks of fireworks across the horizon of Singapore's skyline.
